Hey there, I'm Fawkes! I'm just a solo game dev working on Torment of the Old Gods out of my home office in Illinois.
I've loved weird tales and cosmic horror ever since I first read Lovecraft as a teenager. There's something about those bleak worlds teetering on the brink of madness that I find so thrilling. When I got into tabletop gaming, I was hooked on being able to tell those kinds of ominous stories with friends.
After playing every horror investigation RPG I could get my hands on, I realized there was still room for the kind of game I dreamed of running. Most felt too clunky with convoluted rules or didn't focus enough on PC-driven storytelling.
So I designed Torment of the Old Gods to capture that dangerous 1940s vibe where otherworldly evils encroach on reality. I aimed for fast-paced combat where smart thinking matters more than stats. I wanted characters' backgrounds and relationships to shape the narrative in big ways. My goal was to create tense mysteries that can only be unraveled through clever roleplaying, not skill rolls alone.
With its deadly battles, sanity-testing rituals, and occasion for pulp heroics, I want Torment to help me and my players tell chilling tales we'll remember forever. The kind that leave you glancing over your shoulder when it gets too quiet. Stories where every choice carries weight, and horror emerges from both monsters and humanity's own flaws.
My hope is that Torment can capture that feeling of fighting against the inevitable darkness I adore in Lovecraft's work. So if you also love eldritch adventures, tense investigations, and character-driven stories, I invite you to join me around the gaming table. Steel your nerves, gather close friends, and let's see what twisted truths we may unveil together in the world of Torment of the Old Gods! Just be wary, for once you peer beyond the veil, you can never return the same...
